RESUMO

In recent years, the rotational Doppler effect (RDE) has been widely used in rotational motion measurement. However, the performance of existing detection systems based on the RDE are generally limited by the drastic reduction of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) due to the influence of atmospheric turbulence, partial obscuration of the vortex beam (VB) during propagation, and misalignment between the optical axis of VB and the rotational axis of the object, which poses a challenge for practical applications. In this paper, we proposed a coherent detection method of the RDE measurement based on triple Fourier transform. First, the weak RDE signal in backscattered light is amplified by using the balanced homodyne detection method, and the amplified signal still retains the same characteristic of severe broadening in the frequency domain as the original signal. Furthermore, we proposed the triple Fourier transform to extract the broadened RDE frequency shift signal after the coherent amplification. The proposed method significantly improves the SNR of RDE measurement and facilitates the accurate extraction of rotational speed, which helps to further improve the RDE detection range and promote its practical application.

Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a common complication in surgical patients. While many interventions to prevent PND have been studied, the availability of treatment methods is limited. Thus, it is crucial to delve into the mechanisms of PND, pinpoint therapeutic targets, and develop effective treatment approaches. In this study, reduced dorsal tenia tecta (DTT) neuronal activity was found to be associated with tibial fracture surgery-induced PND, indicating that a neuronal excitation-inhibition (E-I) imbalance could contribute to PND. Optogenetics in the DTT brain region was conducted using upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with the ability to convert 808 nm near-infrared light to visible wavelengths, which triggered the activation of excitatory neurons with minimal damage in the DTT brain region, thus improving cognitive impairment symptoms in the PND model. Moreover, this noninvasive intervention to modulate E-I imbalance showed a positive influence on mouse behavior in the Morris water maze test, which demonstrates that UCNP-mediated optogenetics is a promising tool for the treatment of neurological imbalance disorders.

Forests emit a large amount of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) in response to biotic and abiotic stress. Despite frequent occurrence of large forest fires in recent years, the impact of smoke stress derived from these forest fires on the emission of BVOCs is largely unexplored. Thus, the aims of the study were to quantify the amount and composition of BVOCs released by two sub-tropical tree species, Cunninghamia lanceolata and Schima superba, in response to exposure to smoke. Physiological responses and their relationship with BVOCs were also investigated. The results showed that smoke treatments significantly (p < 0.001) promoted short-term release of BVOCs by C. lanceolata leaves than S. superba; and alkanes, olefins and benzene homologs were identified as major classes of BVOCs. Both C. lanceolata and S. superba seedlings showed significant (p < 0.005) physiological responses after being smoke-stressed where photosynthetic rate remained unaffected, chlorophyll content greatly reduced and Activities of anti-oxidant enzymes and the malondialdehyde content generally increased with the increase in smoke concentration. Activities of anti-oxidant enzymes showed mainly positive correlations with the major BVOCs. In conclusion, the release of BVOCs following smoke stress is species-specific and there exists a link between activities of antioxidant enzymes and BVOCs released. The findings provide insight about management of forest fires in order to control excessive emission of smoke that would trigger increased release of BVOCs.

The physiological, biochemical, and morphological changes brought about by fungi in response to fungicides can undoubtedly bring diversity to fungi. Cordyceps militaris strains TN (mating type genes MAT1-1-1, MAT1-1-2, and MAT1-2-1) and CmFRQ-454 (mating type genes MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-1-2) were treated with non-lethal doses of fungicides amphotericin B, L-cysteine, terbinafine, and 5-fluorocytosine. The results showed that the treatment with amphotericin B, terbinafine, and 5-fluorocytosine promoted an increase in the relative content of clock protein CmFRQ (C. militaris FREQUENCY) in the mycelium of strain TN, while the high concentration of L-cysteine inhibited the expression of CmFRQ in strain TN. These four fungicides could reduce the relative contents of CmFRQ in the mycelium of strain CmFRQ454. The relative contents of CmFRQ in the mycelium of strain TN were increased after removing the four fungicides, but the relative contents of CmFRQ in the mycelium of strain CmFRQ454 were decreased after removing the four fungicides. This indicates that the effect of fungicides on CmFRQ on mycelium was still sustained after removing the stress of fungicides, and the operation of the circadian clock was changed. The fruiting bodies of C. militaris strain TN and CmFRQ-454 were still degenerated to varying degrees after removing amphotericin B, L-cysteine, and terbinafine. However, the fruiting bodies of strain TN after removing 5-fluorocytosine did not show significant degeneration; the fruiting bodies of strain CmFRQ-454 after removing 5-fluorocytosine obtained rejuvenation. These results indicate that the stress of fungicides could lead to the degeneration of fruiting bodies as well as the rejuvenation of fruiting bodies, resulting in the morphological diversity of C. militaris. The increase or decrease of the CmFRQ-454, the main component of the circadian clock, caused by the stress of fungicants, might lead to the differential degeneration of different mating-type strains of C. militaris.

The widespread use of Bacillus thuringiensis toxins as insecticides has brought about resistance problems. Anti-idiotypic nanobody approaches provide new strategies for resistance management and toxin evolution. In this study, the monoclonal antibody generated against the receptor binding region Domain II of Cry2Aa toxin was used as a target to screen materials with insecticidal activity. After four rounds of screening, anti-idiotypic nanobody 1C12 was obtained from the natural alpaca nanobody phage display library. To better analyze the activity of 1C12, soluble 1C12 was expressed by the Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). The results showed that 1C12 not only binds the midgut brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) of two lepidopteran species and cadherin CR9-CR11 of three lepidopteran species but also inhibits Cry2Aa toxins from binding to CR9-CR11. The insect bioassay showed that soluble 1C12 caused 25.65% and 23.61% larvae mortality of Helicoverpa armigera and Plutella xylostella, respectively. Although 1C12 has low insecticidal activity, soluble 1C12 possesses the ability to screen a broad-spectrum recognition of the toxin binding region of lepidopteran cadherins and can be used for the identification of the toxin binding region of other lepidopteran cadherins and the subsequent evolution of Cry2Aa toxin. The present study demonstrates a new strategy to screen for the production of novel insecticides.

BACKGROUND: Tea pests pose a significant threat to tea leaf yield and quality, necessitating fast and accurate detection methods to improve pest control efficiency and reduce economic losses for tea farmers. However, in real tea gardens, some tea pests are small in size and easily camouflaged by complex backgrounds, making it challenging for farmers to promptly and accurately identify them. RESULTS: To address this issue, we propose a real-time detection method based on TP-YOLOX for monitoring tea pests in complex backgrounds. Our approach incorporates the CSBLayer module, which combines convolution and multi-head self-attention mechanisms, to capture global contextual information from images and expand the network's perception field. Additionally, we integrate an efficient multi-scale attention module to enhance the model's ability to perceive fine details in small targets. To expedite model convergence and improve the precision of target localization, we employ the SIOU loss function as the bounding box regression function. Experimental results demonstrate that TP-YOLOX achieves a significant performance improvement with a relatively small additional computational cost (0.98 floating-point operations), resulting in a 4.50% increase in mean average precision (mAP) compared to the original YOLOX-s. When compared with existing object detection algorithms, TP-YOLOX outperforms them in terms of mAP performance. Moreover, the proposed method achieves a frame rate of 82.66 frames per second, meeting real-time requirements. CONCLUSION: TP-YOLOX emerges as a proficient solution, capable of accurately and swiftly identifying tea pests amidst the complex backgrounds of tea gardens. This contribution not only offers valuable insights for tea pest monitoring but also serves as a reference for achieving precise pest control. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Acute social stress has been shown to influence social decision-making. This study aimed to examine how social distance modulates the influence of acute social stress on young male moral decision-making. Sixty healthy male college students were randomly divided to be exposed to the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) or a placebo version of the TSST (P-TSST) before they performed moral decision-making tasks. The results showed that participants under acute social stress showed obvious increases in subjective stress perception, negative affect, salivary cortisol, and alpha-amylase and made more altruistic choices for others compared to the control group. However, social distance regulates the promotion of this acute social stress, with the promotion effect being stronger in socially distant others. Furthermore, the interpersonal order difference of different social distances in altruistic decisions is smaller in low-conflict dilemmas than in high-conflict dilemmas. In addition, an increase in salivary cortisol was positively correlated with altruistic choices toward both acquaintances and strangers, whereas an increase in salivary alpha-amylase was only positively correlated with altruistic choices toward friends. The results suggest that social distance modulates the promotion of acute social stress on moral decision-making, which might stem from the divergent effects of cortisol and alpha-amylase.

Landslides are a common natural disaster, having severe socio-economic effects and posing immense threat to safety, such as loss of life at a global scale. Modeling and predicting the possibility of landslides are important in order to monitor and prevent their negative consequences. In this study, landslides are the primary research object. Further, the frequency ratio (FR) method was applied to the random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and decision tree (DT) regression algorithms for landslide sensitivity assessment. It was also applied to landslide risk assessment mapping in the Longmen Mountain area. Therefore, taking into account the positive and negative sample balance, 7774 historical landslide points and 7774 non-landslide points were selected and divided them into training sets and test sets. The influence factors were selected and analyzed through multicollinearity analysis and the FR method. To improve the performance of the model and the accuracy of the findings, the individual environmental factors are normalized. Subsequently, the LSI (landslide susceptibility index), was obtained by calculating the frequency ratio. Following this, the RF, SVM, and DT were used to construct the model. The trained model calculates the landslide probability of each cell in the study area and generates the resultant susceptibility map. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and R2 of this region were calculated to evaluate the model's performance. The results indicate that RF obtained the highest predictive performance (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.82) in landslide risk prediction, followed by SVM (AUC = 0.8) and DT (AUC = 0.69). The results of this study serve as a predictive map for landslide susceptibility areas and provide critical support for the security of lives and property for the human and socio-economic development in the Longmen Mountain region. In addition, the experiment results reveal that the machine learning model based on the FR method can improve the accuracy and performance of methods in studies related to landslide susceptibility. The method is equally applicable to research in other fields.

Perception of fear induced by others in danger elicits complex vicarious fear responses and behavioral outputs. In rodents, observing a conspecific receive aversive stimuli leads to escape and freezing behavior. It remains unclear how these behavioral self-states in response to others in fear are neurophysiologically represented. Here, we assess such representations in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC), an essential site for empathy, in an observational fear (OF) paradigm in male mice. We classify the observer mouse's stereotypic behaviors during OF using a machine-learning approach. Optogenetic inhibition of the vmPFC specifically disrupts OF-induced escape behavior. In vivo Ca2+ imaging reveals that vmPFC neural populations represent intermingled information of other- and self-states. Distinct subpopulations are activated and suppressed by others' fear responses, simultaneously representing self-freezing states. This mixed selectivity requires inputs from the anterior cingulate cortex and the basolateral amygdala to regulate OF-induced escape behavior.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to perform a meta-analysis regarding the mid-long-term effect (≥ 2-year follow-up) of metabolic surgery on T2DM in non-obese patients. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases were searched for clinical studies from inception to March 2023. Stata 12.0 was used for data aggregation. Sensitivity, subgroup, and meta-regression analyses were performed when feasible. RESULTS: This meta-analysis included 18 articles involving 548 patients. A pooled rate of 47.5% of T2DM remission was found after metabolic surgery. To be more specific, 83.5% was obtained for hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) < 7.0%, 45.1% for HbA1c < 6.5%, and 40.4% for HbA1c < 6.0%. Subgroup analysis showed that one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) had a higher remission rate (93.9%) than other surgeries. Studies conducted in America had a higher remission rate (61.4%) than in Asia (43.6%). Meta-regression analysis displayed that publication year, number of patients, study design, preoperative age, BMI, and quality assessment score were not significantly associated with T2DM remission rate. Additionally, metabolic surgery could result in significant reductions in BMI (-4.133 kg/m2), weight (-9.874 kg), HbA1c (-1.939%), fasting blood glucose, fasting C-peptide, and fasting insulin. However, metabolic surgery seemed to have poorer glycemic control in non-obese than obese T2DM patients. CONCLUSION: A moderate mid-long-term effect of T2DM remission was observed after metabolic surgery in non-obese patients. However, we still need more prospective multi-institutional studies using the same definitions for diabetes and the same surgical technique for the surgery. Without this, the exact role of bariatric surgery in non-obese patients is unanswered.

There have been concerns raised about the environmental effects of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) because of their toxicity, widespread distribution, and persistence. Understanding the occurrences and ecological risk posed by PFASs is essential, especially for the short-chain replacements perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) and perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS), which are now becoming predominant PFASs. The lack of aquatic life criteria (ALC), however, prevents an accurate assessment of the ecological risks of PFBA and PFBS. This study thus investigated the occurrence of 15 PFASs at 29 sampling sites in Shaying River Basin (in China) systematically, conducted the toxicity tests of PFBA and PFBS on eight resident aquatic organisms in China, and derived the predicted non-effect concentration (PNEC) values for PFBA and PFBS for two environmental media in China. The results showed that the total PFASs concentrations (ΣPFASs) ranged from 5.07 to 20.32 ng/L (average of 10.95 ng/L) in surface water, whereas in sediment, ΣPFASs ranged from 6.46 to 20.05 ng/g (dw) (average of 11.51 ng/g). The presence of PFBS was the most prominent PFASs in both water (0.372-8.194 ng/L) and sediment (4.54-15.72 ng/g), demonstrating that short-chain substitution effects can be observed in watersheds. The PNEC values for freshwater and sediment were 6.60 mg/L and 8.30 mg/kg (ww), respectively, for PFBA, and 14.04 mg/L, 37.08 mg/kg (ww), respectively, for PFBS. Ecological risk assessment of two long-chain PFASs, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), and two short-chain PFASs, PFBA and PFBS, using the hazard quotient method revealed that Shaying River and other major River Basins in China were at risk of PFOS contamination. This study contributes to a better understanding of the presence and risk of PFASs in the Shaying River and first proposes the ALCs for PFBA and PFBS in China, which could provide important reference information for water quality standards.

Our research aimed to investigate whether soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) relieved Diquat (DQ)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) via HMGB1/IκBα/NF-κB signaling pathways. An AKI rat model was constructed using DQ. Pathological changes in renal tissue were detected by HE and Masson staining. Gene expression was determined using qRT-PCR, IHC, and western blotting. Cell activity and apoptosis were analysed using CCK-8 and Flow cytometry, respectively. An abnormal kidney structure was observed in DQ rats. The levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (CRE), uric acid (UA), oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses in the DQ group increased on the 7th day but decreased on the 14th day, compared with the control group. Additionally, HMGB1, sTM, and NF-kappaB (NF-κB) expression had increased in the DQ group compared with the control group, while the IκKα and IκB-α levels had decreased. In addition, sTM relieved the damaging effects of diquat on renal tubular epithelial cell viability, apoptosis, and the inflammatory response. The levels of HMGB1, TM, and NF-κB mRNA and protein were significantly decreased in the DQ + sTM group compared with the DQ group. These findings indicated that sTM could relieve Diquat-induced AKI through HMGB1/IκBα/NF-κB signaling pathways, which provides a treatment strategy for Diquat-induced AKI.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a serious, life-threatening inflammation of the lungs that still lacks effective treatment. We previously showed that serine protease inhibitor B1 (SerpinB1) protects against ALI induced by orthotopic autologous liver transplantation. However, the role of SerpinB1 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and its regulatory mechanisms are not known. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH: Wild-type (WT) and SerpinB1 knockout (KO) mice were treated with intratracheal LPS stimulation to induce ALI. Some of the WT and KO mice were injected i.p. with melatonin, a rhythm-related protein Rev-erbα agonist. The circadian rhythm in WT mice was disrupted by exposing mice to 24 h of continuous dark or light conditions after intratracheal LPS. Neutrophils were isolated from alveolar lavage fluid of WT and KO mice, and from human peripheral blood. Neutrophils were treated with LPS and melatonin. KEY RESULTS: Disruption of circadian rhythm by either 24-h dark or light conditions exacerbated LPS-induced ALI and decreased expression of Rev-erbα and SerpinB1 protein in lung, whereas melatonin treatment increased SerpinB1 expression and attenuated LPS-induced ALI in WT mice, but not in KO mice. In isolated neutrophils, Rev-erbα was co-localized with SerpinB1 and bound to its promoter to trigger SerpinB1 transcription. Furthermore, LPS stimulation increased formation of neutrophil extracellular traps, which was reversed by melatonin treatment in neutrophils from WT mice, but not from KO mice. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS: In mice, SerpinB1 is rhythmically regulated by Rev-erbα, and its down-regulation exacerbates LPS-induced ALI by inducing formation of neutrophil extracellular traps.

Sakuranetin is a plant-natural product, which has increasingly been utilized in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries for its extensive anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and immunomodulatory effects. Sakuranetin was mostly produced by extraction technology from plants, which is limited to natural conditions and biomass supply. In this study, a de novo biosynthesis pathway of sakuranetin by engineered S. cerevisiae was constructed. After a series of heterogenous gene integration, a biosynthetic pathway of sakuranetin from glucose was successfully constructed in S. cerevisiae whose sakuranetin yield reached only 4.28 mg/L. Then, a multi-module metabolic engineering strategy was applied for improving sakuranetin yield in S. cerevisiae: (1) adjusting the copy number of sakuranetin synthesis genes, (2) removing the rate-limiting factor of aromatic amino acid pathway and optimizing the synthetic pathway of aromatic amino acids to enhance the supply of carbon flux for sakuranetin, and (3) introducing acetyl-CoA carboxylase mutants ACC1S659A,S1157A and knocking out YPL062W to strengthen the supply of malonyl-CoA which is another synthetic precursor of sakuranetin. The resultant mutant S. cerevisiae exhibited a more than tenfold increase of sakuranetin titer (50.62 mg/L) in shaking flasks. Furthermore, the sakuranetin titer increased to 158.65 mg/L in a 1-L bioreactor. To our knowledge, it is the first report on the sakuranetin de novo synthesis from glucose in S. cerevisiae. KEY POINTS: • De novo biosynthesis of sakuranetin was constructed by engineered S. cerevisiae. • Sakuranetin production was enhanced by multi-module metabolic engineering strategy. • It is the first report on the sakuranetin de novo synthesis in S. cerevisiae.

BACKGROUND: Decreased bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO) under hypoxic conditions can lead to endothelial dysfunction. NO supplementation may protect endothelial function in ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. Therefore, a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed to verify the protective effect of NO donors on endothelium in IR injury. METHODS: Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to April 1, 2023. The specific inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) RCTs; (2) trials comparing NO donors with placebo control groups; and (3) trials reporting the effects of these interventions on vascular endothelial functional outcomes in IR injury. Random-effects models were used to assess pooled effect sizes, which were expressed as standardized mean differences (SMD). RESULTS: Seven studies satisfied the inclusion criteria and consisted of a total of 149 participants. NO donors were protective of endothelial function in IR injury (SMD: - 1.60; 95% confidence interval [CI]: - 2.33, - 0.88, P < 0.0001; heterogeneity [I2 = 66%, P = 0.001]). Results of the subgroup analysis showed the following: absence of protective effect of NO donor use following ischemia on endothelial function in IR injury - 1.78 (95% CI: - 2.50, - 1.07) and loss of protective effect on endothelial function after prolonged NO donor use - 0.89 (95% CI: - 2.06, 0.28). CONCLUSION: The short-period use of NO donors before the onset of ischemia can protect endothelial function in IR injury.

A growing body of evidence indicates that the immune system plays a central role in sepsis. By analyzing immune genes, we sought to establish a robust gene signature and develop a nomogram that could predict mortality in patients with sepsis. Herein, data were extracted from the Gene Expression Omnibus and Biological Information Database of Sepsis (BIDOS) databases. We enrolled 479 participants with complete survival data using the GSE65682 dataset, and grouped them randomly into training (n = 240) and internal validation (n = 239) sets based on a 1:1 proportion. GSE95233 was set as the external validation dataset (n=51). We validated the expression and prognostic value of the immune genes using the BIDOS database. We established a prognostic immune genes signature (including ADRB2, CTSG, CX3CR1, CXCR6, IL4R, LTB, and TMSB10) via LASSO and Cox regression analyses in the training set. Based on the training and validation sets, the Receiver Operating Characteristic curves and Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the immune risk signature has good predictive power in predicting sepsis mortality risk. The external validation cases also showed that mortality rates in the high-risk group were higher than those in the low-risk group. Subsequently, a nomogram integrating the combined immune risk score and other clinical features was developed. Finally, a web-based calculator was built to facilitate a convenient clinical application of the nomogram. In summary, the signature based on the immune gene holds potential as a novel prognostic predictor for sepsis.

The silkworm (Bombyx mori) is not only an excellent model species, but also an important agricultural economic insect. Taking it as the research object, its advantages of low maintenance cost and no biohazard risks are considered. Small open reading frames (smORFs) are an important class of genomic elements that can produce bioactive peptides. However, the smORFs in silkworm had been poorly identified and studied. To further study the smORFs in silkworm, systematic genome-wide identification is essential. Here, we identified and analyzed smORFs in the silkworm using comprehensive methods. Our results showed that at least 738 highly reliable smORFs were found in B. mori and that 34,401 possible smORFs were partially supported. We also identified some differentially expressed and tissue-specific-expressed smORFs, which may be closely related to the characteristics and functions of the tissues. This article provides a basis for subsequent research on smORFs in silkworm, and also hopes to provide a reference point for future research methods for smORFs in other species.

This study investigated the protective effect of ß-glucan (BG), konjac glucomannan (KGM) and xanthan gum (XG) on thermo-stability and antioxidant capacities of blueberry anthocyanins (ACN) and their interaction mechanisms. Twenty-six glycosylated and acylated ACN were identified, and malvidin-3-O-galactose was predominant (36.78 %) in ACN extracts. Three polysaccharides retained colour and stability and antioxidant capabilities of ACN under thermal-treatments (XG > KGM > BG). Rheological properties (shear stress, apparent viscosity) of three polysaccharides were enhanced in presence of ACN. UV-visible spectra, SEM and DLS results indicated that co-aggregation between ACN and specific zones of these polysaccharides was formed. TGA and DSC studies confirmed that introductionof three polysaccharides, especially XG could improve thermostability of ACN. FTIR, and molecular dynamics simulations revealed that thermo-stabilization of polysaccharides-ACN conjugates might be attributedto their intermolecular interactions mainly via hydrogen bindings. The protection by water-soluble polysaccharides foresees novel anthocyanins in food products with increased heat-resistant stability.

VOCs emission reduction in the petroleum and petrochemical industry is a hot and difficult topic at present. The single method may not be able to meet the actual treatment status. Therefore, the adsorption coupled photocatalytic degradation technology was used to remove VOCs. Phosphorus-doped carbon nitride (PCN) and PCN/TiO2 were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and sol-gel method, and then PCN/TiO2/Zn(OAc)2-ACF composites were prepared by ultrasonic impregnation on zinc acetate modified activated carbon fibers (Zn(OAc)2-ACF). The removal efficiency of n-hexane by composite materials was explored in a self-made reactor, and the factors affecting removal efficiency, removal mechanism, and possible ways of degradation were investigated. The results showed that under the optimum reaction conditions (initial concentration of n-hexane 200 mg/m3, space velocity 1000 h-1, light intensity 24 W, mass fraction of doped PCN 6%, loading twice, calcination temperature 450 °C), PCN/TiO2/Zn(OAc)2-ACF composite has the highest removal efficiency of n-hexane (90.2%). The adsorption capacity of the composites after doping the P element was 215.3 mg/g, which did not enhance the adsorption performance compared with that before doping, but the removal rate of n-hexane was higher. This showed that doping P element was helpful to enhance the photocatalytic activity of the composites.

The moisture content of combustible material on the forest floor is constantly changing due to environmental factors, which have a direct impact on the composition and emission intensity of particulate matter released during fire. In this study, an indoor biomass combustion analysis device was used to analyze the emission characteristics of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from combustion of herbaceous combustible materials with different moisture contents (0%, 15%, and 30%). The composition of inorganic elements in PM2.5 (Zn, K, Mg, Ca, and other 13 measurable elements) were determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The results showed that the PM2.5 emission factor increased significantly with the increase of moisture content of combustible materials in the range of 11.63 ± 0.55 for dry samples to 36.71 ± 1.21 g/kg for samples with 30% moisture content. The main elemental components of PM2.5 were K, Zn, Ca, Mg, and Na and K, Ca, Mg, and Na emission factors increased with the increase of moisture content of combustibles. The proportion of macronutrients in PM2.5 released by combustion of each herb increased as the moisture content increased, but the proportion of trace elements gradually decreased. There was a good correlation between elemental composition of PM2.5 and that of herbaceous combustibles. The results provide evidence that the moisture content of combustible materials has a significant effect on the emission of inorganic elements in particulate matter, and hence cautions should be exercised during fuel reduction treatments, such as early prescribed fire.
